PRO: 90% commission for a one-time fee.

CON: I’ve always been an entrepreneurial guy, and I joined Legato because I wanted to build and operate my own travel business. What I didn’t expect was to be called an “independent contractor” while being told that I’m ONLY allowed to book through Legato.

That level of control seems completely inconsistent with what being an independent contractor is and raises serious worker-misclassification concerns. If I truly own and operate an independent business, I should be able to choose who I work with, including having multiple host agencies. You can’t call someone independent while controlling where they are allowed to conduct their business. I hope the appropriate authorities eventually take a closer look at what Legato is illegally doing here and put a stop to it.

My wife has been with another travel company for 16+ years, and I’m regretting my decision to try something different when starting out myself. The whole goal was to eventually work alongside her while also building my own business, and now this contract is preventing me from doing that. I feel completely stuck in this arrangement. Very shady practices here.

The agency also recognizes top-performing advisors, invests in professional development, and continues to improve its annual conference each year. It is clear that leadership believes our success is their success, and they back that up with action.

No host agency is perfect, and I would still like to see a few reporting enhancements, particularly for group bookings and commission reconciliation. However, what matters most to me is that they listen, adapt, and continuously improve.

There are also regular continuing education opportunities. I appreciate Legato's partnership in building my business, and they are routinely looking for ways to improve processes. Legato partners with Tern and Travefy to minimize the back-office burden of sales reporting for agents using those systems. I enjoy the flexibility to decide what tools and suppliers are best for my business. Legato contracts with a wide variety of vetted suppliers and encourages agents to engage with suppliers that align with their own businesses; there are no preferred or mandatory suppliers.

Absolutely terrible host agency. Ongoing issues with support and communication, and more importantly, commission transparency. I confirmed payments were made on my bookings, but they were not passed through to me. After speaking with other Legato agents, it’s clear this isn’t an isolated issue. There are better, more transparent host agencies out there.

Legato has got to be THE BEST host agency around. I don't know anyone else with such great people to work with. I have called and had appointments with several other Hosts and I am so glad I went with Legato. The owners are calm and understanding. And when things get tough they are there to help. There is a great platform of agents and we all like to help each other and want each other to succeed. One thing I would change is the yearly conference. It is a little expensive for the area it is in. But they do have a virtual conference as well which helps. You will not get leads with them but they will help you with some tips on how to get leads. They are fair on commissions and do not expect you to be a high performing agent. Come as you are.
