But why do this? Why is this important?

Luxury travel is a high-effort niche. Between the hours spent crafting tailored, concierge-level experiences for clients, deepening relationships with Virtuoso properties and suppliers, and building a business to match, that level of work deserves proper compensation.

Many host agencies require specific sales thresholds or milestones before they offer higher-end commission splits. Starting commission splits may be 70/30 (or lower), with the 90/10 reserved only for those who are really pushing the sales of their businesses. While this lower split (which can come with a lower payment to the host agency) may seem enticing to start with for new advisors, there are some important things that happen with a split this low:

  • You’re leaving money on the table every single booking.
  • Less money coming back to you means less money to reinvest in marketing, training, or expanding your brand.
  • You’re working harder for a company’s profit margin rather than your own.

It gets even more extreme when you consider the luxury space. A 20% difference in commission can mean thousands of dollars lost per client - money that could be reinvested, or taken home as well-earned profit.
