Last updatedApril 1, 2014

The airlines may not be known for their senses of humor the other 364 days of the year, but some of them certainly shine on April Fool's Day! We've compiled some Travel April Fool's Day Jokes for 2014 ... enjoy!

West Jet

If you haven't followed West Jet the past few years, they're pranksters. In previous years, they've announced they're adding helium to the ventilation systems to lighten the load, loosened restrictions on pets in the cabin, and last year received over 1 million views with their KargoKids program. This year's West Jet April Fool's Day Joke? They're converting flight times to metric time:

Virgin Atlantic

Richard Branson has some mischief about him so it's no surprise Virgin also loves a good April Fool's Day prank. Last year's glass bottom plane joke fooled many a people... and got some serious social media love.

This year, they're at it again. They've partnered with Nest (the learning thermostat startup Google bought for $3.2 billion earlier this year) to bring temperature controlled seats for Virgin America passengers.

Featuring temperature pre-sets like "Cancun Afternoon" and "Chicago Polar Vortex", how can they go wrong?

SAS Airlines

I'm not even sure if SAS airlines April Fool's Joke needs to be a mandate—especially for leisure travelers headed to spring break.

SAS wants to increase SocialMedia exposure. Now all passengers must hence take a Selfie at boarding and post online. pic.twitter.com/znjEdjjR87—SAS (@SAS) April 1, 2014

Southwest Airlines

Well, they're new to this so I'll give them an A for effort (and because they brought some astronomy into it). The Southwest Airlines April Fool's joke is the announcement of a new route to Mars. But, honestly, if you're short on time, it's pretty bad.

An Oldie but Goodie

While this Guardian prank was back in the late 70's, I still think it takes the cake. Maybe it's the writing geek in me that swoons over the fact they fabricated an island in the Indian Ocean in the shape of a semicolon, and named it after a typeface. The 7-page supplement was full of great puns and who can resist those? I'm a sucker for them. So, let me introduce you to the island of San Serriffe!

Happy April Fool's Day!

While I don't think I've ever successfully pulled off an April Fool's Day joke, I do enjoy the mischievous nature of the day. Hope you enjoyed the compilation of travel focused pranks!

And, if I missed any good ones, please feel free to share them in the comments! Image Credits: Flickr/Diana
