A Quick Guide to KHM Travel Group’s Revamped Live Training Events
When researching host agencies, access to ongoing training and educational opportunities should be a top priority. Working with a host that provides training at each point in your business’s development ensures that the host is committed to your goals, no matter how lofty they are!
And because the travel industry is so dynamic, a savvy travel agent should always be looking for new and innovative training events that will set them apart from their peers.
To anticipate their agents’ aspirations, KHM Travel Group has revamped two of its live training events this year, and has added a completely new series unlike any travel industry training, called Travel Agent Masters Weekend.
This quick guide highlights the differences between KHM Travel’s live training events, who each one is designed for, and what attendees will leave with.
Boot Camp
How often is it offered?
Boot Camp is offered between 4 and 6 times per year at our corporate office.
How many days is the event?
In 2016, Boot Camp was expanded to be a three-day event.
Who is it designed for?
Boot Camp is ideal for new travel agents, whether they just got started in the travel business or whether they have experience, but are new to KHM Travel. It’s also perfect for those that have been working part-time at their businesses get the immersive training they need to transition to full-time agents.
What is the maximum number of attendees?
40 agents.
What all is included?
Included in the cost of Boot Camp are three full days of business-centric training with our staff of industry veterans. It includes training materials, free shuttle service from the host hotel, and all meals, snacks and refreshments while attendees are at our office. Boot Camp attendees also gain access to their own Portal page with copies of each presentation as well as 5 follow-up webinars to check on progress.
What is the training focus?
Boot Camp’s focus is giving agents everything they need to establish a solid foundation for their business. A lot of ground is covered in just three days, including developing a business mindset, building a brand, choosing suppliers, working in our booking engine, an introduction to social media marketing, and compliance.
What will attendees walk away with?
The goal is for attendees to walk away with the right tools, practical knowledge and confidence to grow their travel businesses. Prior to leaving, our training team discusses the next steps, including what agents should do when they get home. On top of that, the goal is for agents to leave feeling more connected to the KHM Travel network, including the staff and their fellow attendees. For many Boot Camp attendees, this event is the first time they actually get to meet other agents face-to-face!
Destination Success
How often is it offered?
Destination Success is usually offered twice a year, in the spring and the fall. In 2016, we are revamping the content and format, and will be re-introducing this improved event in October.

What all is included?
Agent receive four days of skill-building sessions and unique business trainings focused on building your personal brand. We also bring in speakers from our preferred suppliers partners to share their wealth of knowledge in helping agents sell their products. Sometimes, they even bring a few surprises with them! In the past, a few lucky attendees have also won prizes given away from our suppliers—even free cruises! Meals, snacks and refreshments are included, as is shuttle service from the host hotel.
What is the training focus?
Destination Success is one of the best opportunities our agents have to learn how to build their brands. Here we offer beneficial courses that are harder to come by in the travel industry. The chance to meet face-to-face with a variety of suppliers is also invaluable. Topics from the KHM Travel staff include developing a business mindset, building rapport with clients, expanding your lead tree and more advanced social media marketing.
What will attendees walk away with?
Destination Success is a very sales and branding-oriented conference. We want attendees to walk away armed with the latest and greatest resources, tools and travel knowledge they can use to grow their businesses. This means having an understanding of how to sell supplier brands, and more importantly how to sell the most important brand—yourself!
Travel Agent Masters Weekend
How often is it offered?
Masters Weekend is offered several times a year, with some sessions held at our corporate office in Ohio and some at our new branch in Florida.
How many days is the event?
Two and a half days, beginning with a welcome reception on Thursday evening followed by two full days of training.
Who is it designed for?
Everyone can benefit from Masters Weekend! However, this high-level training is most effective for those who have some experience (at least 6 months) and who are prepared to move past the basics. Attendance at Masters Weekend is by application only. Burt personally reviews each application to ensure the agent is serious about growing their business and getting the most out of Masters Weekend.
What is the maximum number of attendees?
20 agents.
What all is included?
In addition to two days of immersive, small-group training with KHM Travel Group co-founder Burt Kramer, attendees receive several exclusive perks. This includes Masters Weekend gear and training materials, a one-on-one strategy with Burt 30-40 days after the event, a post-event webinar, follow-up emails, and access to a TA Masters Weekend Membership site with Burt’s presentations, and additional training videos and resources. Plus, as always, meals, snacks and beverages are included!
What is the training focus?
Travel Agent Masters Weekend is an in-depth, laser-focused business training. Over the course of two days, focused on business and sales development based on each agent’s strengths and goals. We limit the number of attendees at each session on purpose, because it allows for an open exchange of ideas between the executive staff and other high-producing agents.
What will attendees walk away with?
The goal for Masters Weekend attendees is to leave with a clear idea of their strengths, and how to leverage them to increase their sales. It’s about pinpointing exactly what is unique about each agent, and using that to develop a successful sales funnel and marketing plan. In addition, there’s the invaluable opportunity to learn from fellow agents, and from the entrepreneurial experience of Burt Kramer.
A host agency that’s truly invested in its agents will continue to improve and build upon its training programs. A well-trained, well-connected agent will not only be an asset to their clients, they will be a valuable resource for new travel agents too!
