−GBTA Convention 2014 (all-day) @ Los Angeles Convention CenterJul 26 – Jul 30
The GBTA Convention 2014 is being held July 26-30th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In going with this year’s theme ‘Business in Motion’, Keven Spacey will be the keynote speaker. If you’re a corporate travel agent or work for/have a travel management company, the GBTA Convention is definitely worth at taking a look at!
Along with 75+ educational sessions, the chance to connect with over 400 suppliers, there is also the opportunity to earn your GTP (Global Travel Professional) certification. And if that’s not enough, they even created a page to help you justify your case to attend the 2014 GBTA Convention. :)
Registration | GBTA Convention 2014
There’s a price hike ($100) after May 30th, 2014 for the GBTA convention so save yourself some dough and register early. Here’s the pricing chart:
There are also some discounts available so make sure to check out the registration page to see if you qualify for any!
For those of you unfamiliar with the GBTA Convention there is a First-Timers Orientation and Luncheon that is complimentary.
The Headquarter Hotel is the JW Marriott Los Angeles at LA Live but there is a whole host of other hotels you can stay at (that may or may not have shuttles to the convention center).
Here’s a list of the hotels, prices, and if they have shuttles. If they do have shuttles, you can find more info on the shuttle service and shuttle schedule on the site.+GBTA Convention 2014 @ Los Angeles Convention Center (all-day)
−Virtuoso Travel Week 2014 (all-day) @ BellagioAug 9 – Aug 15
Virtuoso Travel Week 2014 is happening August 9th-15th at the Bellagio Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas. This is the event for luxury travel advisors in the Virtuoso network. It’s a week of meeting one-on-one with vendors, networking with other agencies, and getting your learning on.
Who Attends Virtuoso Travel Week 2014?
Attendees of Virtuoso Travel Week 2014 are all either vendors or agents that belong to the Virtuoso consortium, either under their host agency’s affiliation or of their own accord. They’re luxury travel advisors and they have some serious stamina because they have days of one-on-one meetings to make personal connections with the different vendors. Invaulable, but exhausting. Plus, there are the receptions and dinners at night!
It’s a big event, with last year having over 4,100 attendees (1,900 of those being travel advisors). It’s also a growing event, with last year’s Virtuoso Travel Week seeing 18% of registrants being first-timers.
To get a better feel of what you can expect at Virtuoso Travel Week 2014, here’s a video from last year. Looks like a smashingly fun time, no?
Sadness. I’m Locked Out.
Now, as it turns out, I’m not a Virtuoso member (or supplier). And this year, the info for the event is behind the Virtuoso intranet so… I can’t see it! :(
I’m looking into getting more info from Virtuoso and will update the registration info, agenda, etc. when I hear back from them. Until then, your best bet (if you’re a Virtuoso member) is logging into the Virtuoso intranet for more info.
Have you Been to a Virtuoso Travel Week?
While we have friends that attend every year, we’ve never personally attended. If you have, I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below! Is it worth going? What events are most valuable? Any prep tips?+Virtuoso Travel Week 2014 @ Bellagio (all-day)
−Fall TravelFest 2014 – Upper Midwest ASTA Chapter (all-day) @ Doubletree by HiltonAug 19
The Upper Midwest ASTA Chapter (go, my home chapter!) is holding their Fall TravelFest 2014 on August 19th at the Bloomington DoubleTree Hilton. The event is open to all travel professionals but active ASTA and NACTA members are lucky enough to get their entrance fee waived.
Fall TravelFest 2014 Agenda
Looks like it’s a full evening from 4-8pm. Here’s what’s on the agenda:
4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Diamond Sponsor Workshops
5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. | Trade Show (Cash Bar Open)
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Dinner including Gold Sponsor Presentations and Networking
Cost to Attend
The Fall TravelFest 2014 costs $15 if you’re not a member of ASTA or NACTA. If you are a member of either association, you just need to provide your member number and enter the promo code ASTA2014 and you can attend for free! :)
Another thing to mention since we have so many readers that belong to host agencies. If your host agency belongs to ASTA/NACTA, their membership doesn’t trickle down to you, your agency needs to have its own membership.
Lastly, this is not an event you want to register for but pull a no-show. Expect a $40 bill if you no-show but register.+Fall TravelFest 2014 – Upper Midwest ASTA Chapter @ Doubletree by Hilton (all-day)
