−ASTA International Destination Expo IDE 2014 – Merida, Mexico (all-day) @ Merida, MexicoMar 27 – Mar 30
This year, ASTA’s International Destination Expo (IDE) is being held in Merida, Mexico. Located just 3 hours west of Cancun, agents will be convening in the Yucatan March 27-30 to explore this up and coming destination.
Details of ASTA’s International Destination Expo
Last year they had it in Dubai, this year it’s Merida. There’s a strong focusing on agent education: creating opportunities for getting to know the area and connecting with local vendors. To that point, ASTA created a Merida Specialist course.
To qualify as an ASTA Merida Specialist, agents must:
- Attend 3 education sessions
- Visit the trade show
- Complete 8 appointments with vendors
- Experience one sight-seeing tour
Cost to Attend
This is one of those events where you’re able to bring guests to share the experiences with you. Take them swimming in a cenote, climb Chichen Itza, visit a Mexico Magic Town… your guest will think you’re pretty nifty.
Note: if you happen to read this before 11:59pm on Valentine’s Day, use promo code LOVE to register your guest/co-worker/etc. for free)
The cost to attend ASTA’s IDE 2014:
ASTA/NACTA travel agent - $409 (guest $429)
Non-member travel agent - $509 (guest $529)
Other things to note that can save you some moola: there is discounted air with Aeromexico as well as United Airlines; the Yucatan Tourism Board is providing complimentary transfers from Cancun (as well as Merida).+ASTA International Destination Expo IDE 2014 – Merida, Mexico @ Merida, Mexico (all-day)
−CLIA cruise3sixty 2014 (all-day) @ Broward Convention CenterApr 2 – Apr 6
CLIA’s cruise3sixty is being held in Fort Lauderdale from April 2-6, 2014. Now, the big question is… who should attend this event? Well, as the name implies it’s a cruise-focused convention so if you want to attend an agent event that is all things cruises… I think we may have found it for you.
The cruise3sixty Program
There are 3 main things you’re going to find at CLIA’s cruise3sixty:
- Trainings for CLIA Certification
If you’re getting your MCC (Master Cruise Counselor) or ACC (Accredited Cruise Counselor) with CLIA, you know that there are a certain amount of training hours you need to have under your belt every year. Well, cruise3sixty is a great way to get those done all in one place, quickly and affordably. They call it fast-tracking. I call it smart. Here’s the schedule of classes.
- Ship Inspections
These are valuable for any agent looking to get some first-hand experiences of the ships. I’m not sure there is any other place where you can find 26 ship inspections, across different cruise lines, over the course of 4 days. If you want to see ships, you need to do CLIA cruise3sixty 2014.
As a side note, ship inspections are also required for your CLIA certifications (ACC, MCC). For you efficient folk, the prospect of killing two birds with one stone here must be extremely enticing.
NOTE: These fill up fast. Sign up for your cruise3sixty ship inspections as soon as you can!
- Trade Show
Our final selling point, the trade show. If you want to meet with reps, learn more about products, destinations, ports, and of course, my favorite… host agencies, they offer that at the trade show.
