Why the "Are Travel Agents Back?" New York Times Article Is Different (and Great)
We, the travel agent community, looooooove when we get write ups in the papers touting why you should be using a travel agent. This week was especially fruitful with the New York Times' article, "Are Travel Agents Back" and the less flatteringly-titled "Is the Travel Agent Dead" write up by Inc. magazine.
While we know that travel agents are alive and thriving, it's a constant struggle to educate non-travel agents that the industry is a land of opportunity for those who love travel-planning and that there will always be a need for travel agents. The exciting thing about the Are Travel Agents Back New York Times article is that
- A) Hello, it's the New York Times!
- B) It's making waves. As I'm writing this post, an article about how great travel agents are is trending on THE NEW YORK TIMES! Currently, it's the 4th most emailed article on the New York Times website.
- C) The fun, colorful photo of young travel agents Katie Brower, Jason Coleman, Julia Douglas, Beth Jenkins, and Ryan McGredy challenges the travel agent stereotype in a big way.
Trending. Us. Can you believe it? Send the link to your clients, post it up on your social media accounts, and let them know that yes, travel agents are back.
Ceblebrate!
This is cause to celebrate, no? I've been in the travel industry for quite some time and have worked with countless travel agents that are starting up their own travel agencies. I've seen so many travel agent success stories from people that knew nothing about being an agent. I see how the industry has been adapting and expanding in unforeseen ways. That's why this article featuring travel agents in such a positive light makes me smile! 🙂
